Almost a unicorn among turntables: only around 70 made and owned by J Paul Getty (three), Frank Sinatra, Ann Margaret, Freddy Mercury, Elton John...
The drive is originally from a ship gyro with an optical servo loop, speed continuously variable to >78RPM. They sound solid like a good direct drive - perhaps a little mellower than the Technics decks of the same ilk...
However, no schematics exist and many are developing faults. But they can be repaired: all the ICs & transistors are available and we now have enough experience to offer to attempt repair for any non-functioning units out there, and to be fairly confident of keeping them going. The motor is a heavyweight and resilient but the FETs, voltage controlled oscillators and op-amps are more fragile...
We have an original, beautiful turntable with original perfectly functional motor and controller. Also a modified motor unit and controller with a 1970s Dual direct drive motor which has marginally better wow and flutter figures...
It is however the most expensive thing in the room: the price is for discussion.
We also have the 1976 playboy turntable centrefold with the GT2101 right in the middle, a full set of Gale LPs and some GS401C speakers. Add a Lecson AC1/AP3 pre/power (we have a few) and you have the most wonderful looking and excellent sounding early 80s vinyl system we can imagine. And quite possibly the only one...
